Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves McConaughey have struck gold with their latest campaign. For their Pantalones Organic Tequila ad released on Tuesday, the couple recreated the movie poster from McConaughey’s beloved 2003 rom-com, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” The shot features Camila, 41, embodying Kate Hudson’s character, magazine writer Andie Anderson, while her husband, 55, reprises his role as ad exec Ben Barry. The couple stands back to back, mirroring the original poster from 21 years ago. Camila wears Andie’s iconic yellow silk gown, and McConaughey dons the same suit but opts to go sans pants. This continues their tradition of going pantless for their joint tequila brand’s promotions, which they officially launched in 2023.
In keeping with the theme, Pantalones is introducing ten specialty cocktail recipes inspired by “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and its most iconic lines and moments. Recipes include “Yellow Dress” and “You’re So Vain,” a nod to Carly Simon’s hit that Andie purposefully sang, “and all the girls dreamed that they’d be Ben’s partner.” Another drink, “Love Fern Margarita,” is inspired by the plant Andie buys for Ben to symbolize their love, and “Benny BooBoo,” a cocktail named after the writer’s sweet nickname for her leading man.
This pantless poster follows Hudson’s recreation of another iconic moment from the movie, where Andie purposefully annoys Ben by asking him to get her a drink during an intense basketball game. Fans reacted with nostalgia, with one follower commenting, “Do people understand how ICONIC THIS IS,” and another saying, “‘And no ice, Ben’ still my favorite movie ever.” Last year, when the film turned 20, Hudson and McConaughey reflected on making one of the most quotable romantic comedies of all time. McConaughey told Variety, “What tickles me doesn’t bruise you. What tickles you doesn’t bruise me. We were never afraid to push it to what might be considered too far.” Hudson added, “When you went one direction, I went with you. But then I would be like, ‘I’m gonna throw him off a little bit. Let’s see what happens if I do a sharp right.’”
Hudson also addressed one of her most asked questions about kissing McConaughey. “My whole thing is we’re always in weird environments. There was only one time when we kissed that was so nice and gentle in the bathroom,” she admitted. “Everything else has not been climate controlled,” McConaughey continued. “Everything else is like swim up to the top, the sharks almost ate you, you just fell from a plane from 300 feet, tread water before you get your breath, and you’re backlit, it’s magic hour. You have 30 seconds to get the shot.”
