Meghan Markle is opening up about her holiday traditions. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, shared with Marie Claire on Friday that she and Prince Harry, 40, had a notable guest join them for Thanksgiving. “As many of us do, we ensure there’s always space at the table for friends without family, which is crucial,” Markle explained, mentioning that feminist icon Gloria Steinem was once among those guests.

Markle also disclosed that their Thanksgiving gatherings are “always quite low-key” but emphasized the joy of “being close to my mom.” Her mother, Doria Ragland, resides in Los Angeles and reportedly has a two-bedroom guesthouse on Markle’s Montecito, California, property when she visits.

The former “Suits” actress further revealed that her family always tries to do “something enjoyable” during the holidays. “I adore the holidays,” Markle said, noting that her children, Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie, are now “three and five, so each year gets better.” She added, “Initially, as a mom, you’re just savoring their presence, but they don’t fully grasp everything yet. Now, we’re at an age where I can’t wait to experience it through their eyes each year.”

This includes discovering new activities every holiday season. “Like any family, you enjoy a great meal and then play games, bring out a guitar — just fun stuff,” Markle described. “Every holiday is a fresh adventure.” She also stressed the importance of creating “magical” traditions for her kids, such as “delicious recipes” and “carrots for reindeer” during Christmas.

In 2021, Meghan discussed her Thanksgiving plans with Ellen DeGeneres: “I love to cook, we’ll be home and just relax. It’s our second Thanksgiving in California, so it will be lovely.” Despite the Sussexes choosing to stay in the U.S. this year, they reportedly received an invitation to spend Christmas with Princess Diana’s family. “Charles [Spencer] has invited Harry, Meghan, and the children to Althorp this Christmas,” a source told the Express in September. “It’s too early to say if they’ll accept, but the offer is there if they wish to.”
