Meghan Trainor recently revealed that she was caught off guard by the effects of Botox, which left her temporarily unable to smile. The 30-year-old singer shared her experience during a recent interview, mentioning that she can now smile "a little bit." She explained that she underwent a procedure known as a "lip flip," which was her first time trying it.
"The movement is coming back," Trainor said on Today. "I got what’s called a 'lip flip.' It was my first ever." She added, "And everyone’s like, 'You’re going to love it, your little lips,' and I didn’t love it because I couldn’t smile."
Trainor described receiving the injection in the middle of her lips, which she called "the most painful thing." She mimicked a half smile and said, "This is going to look great." She also mentioned that her dad walked in during the procedure, and she reacted with, "Oh, no."
The singer shared that she had also received Botox in her jaw to help with clenching. "I think the mixture of the two [caused] me not to smile. … Nobody warned me," she said. Trainor had previously discussed her Botox experience on her podcast, admitting that she had "got too much Botox, and I need help."
During her podcast "Workin’ On It with Meghan Trainor & Ryan Trainor," she explained that someone convinced her a lip flip would enhance her upper lip. "And I could have one for the first time in my whole 30 years of living. It was not true," she said, adding that she had Botox on her forehead a few times before.
The "lip flip" procedure involves injecting Botox into the corners of the mouth and the edges of the lips, causing the muscles around the upper lip to relax and appear fuller. Trainor reflected on the experience, saying, "It taught me my smile does light up a room, and when it’s not there, it’s a dim light. I feel like I’m not happy because I can’t smile."
Despite the Botox mishap, Trainor mentioned she still plans to undergo breast surgery. After two pregnancies, she described her breasts as "saggy sacks." She hopes to get "just a little lift" and possibly "a little implant" to restore their shape. Trainor shares two sons, Riley and Barry, with her husband Daryl Sabara.
