What could be more intriguing than one Robert Pattinson? Two Robert Pattinsons? Three? Imagine, if you will, 17 of them? That's precisely what we're in for with the aptly named Mickey 17, the highly anticipated new film from Parasite Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho. Adapted from Edward Ashton's novel Mickey7, this sci-fi comedy, penned by Bong himself, boasts a stellar cast including Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, and Toni Collette. In this latest provocative offering, R-Pattz stars as the titular Expendable (not that kind) Mickey Barnes, an unconventional hero on a perilous mission to aid in the colonization of the icy planet Niflheim. The twist? Each time Mickey dies—and he does, frequently—he's cloned back to life with his memories intact. Sound wild? Check out the first trailer below, because it's even wilder:

That trailer, folks! 'Ain't That A Kick In The Head' playing in the background, Robert Pattinson showcasing yet another wild voice (The Boy & The Heron, you'll always be legendary), and a plethora of Mickeys dying, resurrecting, and—eventually—discovering each other's existence, potentially leading to catastrophic consequences... what more could you ask for? Beyond laying out the basic premise of the movie, this first official glimpse at Mickey 17 wisely avoids plot specifics, instead concentrating on setting the tone and style of director Bong's latest cinematic oddity. There are recognizable echoes of Parasite and Okja's satirical sharpness, the visually visceral, sci-fi infused class commentary of Snowpiercer, and even a touch of the creature feature flair seen in The Host. But rest assured: this appears to be something entirely new and refreshing from the South Korean maestro. Especially since we can't recall any other Bong film where Robert Pattinson tries to kill Robert Pattinson while other Robert Pattinsons find themselves caught in a cycle of killing or being killed.

The roles of Mark Ruffalo's Trumpian villain and Toni Collette's advisor remain shrouded in mystery. So too are the parts of Naomi Ackie—seen here bubbling with excitement at the prospect of encountering two Mickeys—and Steven Yeun. But suffice it to say, we've already seen enough to skyrocket our anticipation. And we can eagerly await the return of Mickey 17 when it finally graces our screens on 28 January 2025. Just enough time to catch up on Mickeys 1 through 16—phew!
