Just hours after its November 19 launch, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is facing a series of bugs and performance issues that have resulted in the game being heavily criticized on Steam, where it currently holds an 'overwhelmingly negative' rating.
Issues ranging from missing aircraft to excessively long loading times have rendered the game nearly unplayable, according to users who have expressed their dissatisfaction on Steam. Developer Asobo Studio has addressed these concerns via a Twitter post, stating that they are actively working to resolve the issues as swiftly as possible.
According to Asobo Studio, both the missing aircraft bug and the extremely long loading times are due to server issues, exacerbated by the high number of players attempting to access the game post-launch. 'With so many users initializing the sim concurrently, we have a large number of server requests,' the developers explained in a follow-up tweet. 'We are working to help resolve the issues as soon as possible.'
While players can't do much to fix these issues themselves, Asobo Studio provided some guidance for those experiencing loading problems. 'For users whose initial load is past 90% and no longer progressing, we recommend a reboot,' the studio advised. 'Otherwise, we advise waiting to allow the loading to proceed as normal.'
Asobo Studio has not provided an estimated timeline for when the issues might be resolved, but they have asked players to 'stay tuned for further updates' on the situation.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is the latest in a series of games developed with the aid of AI. 'We would have spent our entire lives and then some just marking up [the game's] terrain, which is not really the core of the thing,' said Jorg Neumann, head of MS Flight Sim, in a recent interview. 'So it's just a tool that helps us.'
