This fall, Microsoft is showcasing an unusually robust lineup of PC-exclusive games, including World of Warcraft: The War Within, Ara: History Untold, and the early-access release of Towerborne. While Towerborne is eventually slated for Xbox Series X|S, don't expect Microsoft to frequently skip consoles for its games. Phil Spencer, the company's gaming CEO, has described this situation as an 'anomaly' that is unlikely to recur.

'This is historical,' Spencer told Game File. 'There might always be some anomalies, but I view these three games as an anomaly. We aim to make our games playable on as many platforms as possible. We consider the Xbox platform to encompass the Xbox console, PC, and cloud. We want all our games to be playable across all these platforms. We want them to be Play Anywhere.'

Although there are no plans to bring World of Warcraft to Xbox consoles, Spencer has been vocal about sharing certain Microsoft-owned titles with Sony's PlayStation. The most notable example is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and even upcoming titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will see a PS5 release after debuting on Xbox consoles and PC. Spencer also emphasized his broader goal of enabling players to own a game regardless of where they play it.

'We want to reach a point where, when you purchase a game, whether it's on the cloud—which we're preparing to introduce—on PC, or on console, you own it across the entire Xbox ecosystem,' Spencer explained.
