Whether you're searching for tips on optimizing your build in Diablo 4, seeking a walkthrough for Rise of the Golden Idol, or struggling to master a combo in Street Fighter 6, the internet is a crucial resource for gamers. Microsoft has unveiled a new feature called Game Assist for its Edge browser, aiming to make it the ultimate gaming companion. Game Assist is a 'game-optimized' version of Edge that integrates with the Windows Game Bar, which can be activated by pressing WinKey+G or the Xbox button on your gamepad. When enabled, the Game Assist browser appears as part of the Game Bar overlay and can be pinned to your screen, allowing it to hover over your game. You can also adjust its transparency to make it less intrusive.

The standout feature is the 'game-aware new tab page.' Currently in beta, this feature works with a limited number of games, but Microsoft plans to expand it to automatically detect the game you're playing and suggest relevant guides. This version of Edge retains all your saved passwords, bookmarks, and other data. The supported games include Baldur's Gate 3, Diablo IV, Minecraft, Roblox, Overwatch 2, Valorant, Fortnite, Hellblade 2: Senua's Saga, and League of Legends.

However, there are some limitations. You must use the Windows Game Bar and currently need to install the Microsoft Edge Beta browser and set it as your default. For those committed to Chrome, Firefox, or other browsers, this could be a deal-breaker. Microsoft hasn't specified if Edge will need to be the default in the full release. While the official page doesn't detail the gaming optimizations, it likely involves reducing memory usage and optimizing CPU performance.

Game Assist seems promising, especially for tasks like accessing Diablo IV build information directly while gaming. Having a custom map for collectibles in open-world games would be incredibly helpful. However, with its current requirements, most gamers will have to wait for the full release. Even then, the default browser requirement might limit its accessibility.

If you're eager to try it out, Microsoft provides a setup guide on the announcement page.
