Velan Studios, the developer behind Midnight Murder Club, has unveiled a fresh trailer during The Game Awards, showcasing their upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter. The studio has also announced that the game will enter early access on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam in early 2025. For those eager to experience the game, a new cross-play demo is available for download today on PS5 and PC.

Midnight Murder Club introduces a unique twist to competitive FPS gameplay by setting each match inside a pitch-black mansion. The only sources of light are the flashlight you carry or the brief muzzle-flash from gunfire, requiring players to strategize and use the darkness to their advantage. This design choice emphasizes the importance of sound, as detailed positional audio and proximity chat help players locate enemies. For instance, if a teammate speaks in a nearby hall, their voice will realistically echo into adjacent rooms.

The game also features vending machines scattered throughout the mansion, offering access to various gear such as special pills that allow temporary night vision, decoys to deceive opponents, and deadly weapons. Additionally, Midnight Murder Club will leverage DualSense-specific controller features on both PS5 and PC, enhancing immersion with adaptive triggers that simulate the weight of flashlight clicks.

In the cross-play demo, players can try out two game modes: Free-for-All, where six players compete to achieve the highest kill count, and Thief in the Night, a treasure hunt where two teams race to collect valuable skulls and deposit them into a vault before time expires. The demo will be available until December 22.
