The Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) has embarked on its first international venture today in Dubai, launching MIHAS@Dubai. This significant move underscores Malaysia’s ambition to penetrate the Middle Eastern market and highlights the nation’s robust halal sector. Officiating the event is Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, alongside other prominent figures such as Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Chairman of MATRADE, and Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, CEO of MATRADE. Their participation underscores the strategic importance of this initiative, positioning Malaysia as a leader in the global halal market.

MIHAS@Dubai is strategically aligned with the Middle East Organic and Natural Products Expo, taking place from November 18 to 20 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This synergy offers a comprehensive platform to showcase Malaysia’s diverse halal offerings, spanning food and beverage, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and halal services like finance, franchise, and logistics. Over 200 Malaysian exhibitors will participate, aiming to create business opportunities and attract investment in the halal industry while demonstrating Malaysia’s commitment to quality and innovation.

MIHAS has established itself as one of the world’s premier halal trade shows, providing a valuable networking and transaction platform for Malaysian SMEs. This year’s event in Dubai is particularly noteworthy as it marks MIHAS’s inaugural venture into a strategic hub connecting Europe, Asia, and Africa. The economic potential of MIHAS@Dubai is immense, with global halal product interest projected to hit $5 trillion by 2030. Malaysia aims to capitalize on this trend to significantly boost export sales, fostering connections between Malaysian exporters and international buyers.

Malaysia’s trade performance has shown resilience, with a 10.2% growth rate from January to September 2024 compared to the previous year. MIHAS@Dubai is expected to further enhance these figures, solidifying Malaysia’s status as a leading halal exporter. The success of MIHAS in Kuala Lumpur has set a strong precedent, with the 20th edition attracting over 43,000 visitors and substantial trade value. This bodes well for MIHAS@Dubai’s potential to replicate such success on a global scale.

MATRADE’s commitment to internationalizing MIHAS reflects a strategic vision for Malaysia’s halal industry. By establishing MIHAS as a globally recognized event, Malaysia aims to promote its halal products and assert its leadership in quality and innovation within the global halal market. As MIHAS@Dubai progresses over the next two days, Malaysia’s halal industry is set to forge new connections and explore untapped markets, creating a positive impact for businesses, investors, and consumers alike.

This marks the first significant international event with substantial participation from Malaysian companies led by MATRADE. This initiative not only taps into the burgeoning halal market in the Middle East but also cements Malaysia’s reputation as a global trade show destination.
