There are only a few months remaining to enjoy Minecraft in VR. This is due to developer Mojang's decision to discontinue support for VR and mixed-reality headsets starting March 2025. Mojang outlined this significant change in VR support as part of the Minecraft: Bedrock Edition changelog released this week. "Our capacity to support VR/MR devices has reached its limit and will no longer be maintained in updates post-March 2025, when you will receive your final update," the notes stated. It was also confirmed that "you will no longer be able to use your VR/MR device with Minecraft" after this update, although any purchases and worlds will still function on a standard PC.

Minecraft initially received official VR support with Oculus in 2016. Then, in 2020, Minecraft added PlayStation VR support with two distinct modes: immersive and living room. This means the sandbox game has been accessible in VR for nearly a decade. While VR support is ending, a native Minecraft PS5 edition recently launched for Sony's system, featuring 4K visuals at 60fps. This launch is part of the Bundles of Bravery drop, which also introduced a new Hardcore difficulty mode to the sandbox title.

In the meantime, the Meta Quest 3S VR headset arrived earlier this month, bundled with Batman: Arkham Shadow. For more recommendations, check out GameSpot's list of the 25 best VR games to explore in 2024.
