RIYADH: Mobily, Saudi Arabia’s telecommunications giant, has forged a strategic partnership with Telecom Egypt to lay the groundwork for the inaugural Saudi-owned submarine cable traversing the Red Sea.

The accord encompasses the deployment of the submarine cable, which will be entirely under Mobily’s ownership, with landing points in Duba, Saudi Arabia, and Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, as disclosed by Mobily on X.

This cable will bridge Asia and Africa, forging a pathway to Europe by linking Saudi Arabia with Egypt. It will augment connectivity alternatives for Gulf nations and adjacent regions via Mobily’s digital network, interfacing with Egyptian landing stations along the Mediterranean.

Moreover, it will introduce fresh routes to bolster service dependability and cater to customer demands within the Kingdom and beyond.

“The new cable marks a pivotal advancement in fortifying Saudi Arabia's stature as a preeminent global hub for telecommunications services and data traffic, in harmony with the aspirations of Saudi Vision 2030,” articulated Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Badran, Mobily’s CEO.

He further stated: “The agreement’s signing reinforces our dedication to augmenting our infrastructure and refining our capabilities both regionally and globally, as Mobily’s new cable will connect Saudi Arabia to Egypt and enhance communication adaptability between the Middle East and Europe.”

This collaboration is in line with Mobily’s strategic initiative to reinforce its infrastructure and network capabilities. Building upon its prior investments in submarine cables that link global regions, the new cable will amplify Mobily’s international footprint and capacity.

“In conjunction with the recently established landing station in Sharm El-Sheikh, we are crafting new crossing routes to connect Sharm El-Sheikh to the Mediterranean Sea,” elucidated Mohamed Nasr, Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt.

He added: “We are assured that this commercial agreement will be a significant enhancement to our continuous endeavors to support this vital sector and address the escalating demand for capacity and connectivity.”

Through augmenting capacity and broadening its global reach via fresh collaborations, Mobily is resolute in enhancing its submarine network infrastructure both domestically and internationally.

“I am gratified by our collaboration with Telecom Egypt, which will empower us to deliver top-tier services to all our customers worldwide,” Al-Badran remarked.

“Telecom Egypt is committed to advancing the international telecommunications infrastructure by enriching the geographical diversity of the global submarine cable networks,” Nasr concluded.

This commitment is geared towards furnishing state-of-the-art digital solutions to customers and supporting the sustainable expansion of the Kingdom’s ICT sector through advanced infrastructure.
