Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed support on Friday for the interim leader of neighboring Bangladesh, who assumed power following the resignation of New Delhi's autocratic ally, Sheikh Hasina. This development followed a phone conversation between Modi and Bangladesh's Nobel laureate, Muhammad Yunus, who is now leading the caretaker government established after former Prime Minister Hasina's departure to India. Hasina's resignation has sparked concerns in New Delhi due to its significant investments and strong security relations with Bangladesh. In a statement, the foreign ministry highlighted Modi's reassurance of India's commitment to a democratic, stable, peaceful, and progressive Bangladesh. During Hasina's 15-year tenure, there were numerous reports of human rights violations, including the mass detention and extrajudicial killings of political adversaries.
