Craving more of the Thai icon and viral sensation Moo Deng? Good news! The 4-month-old pygmy hippo, who captured the internet's heart, has just released an official song in four languages for her worldwide fans. The 50-second track 'Moodeng Moodeng' is available in Thai, English, Chinese, and Japanese, featuring catchy lyrics like “Moo Deng Moo Deng, boing boing boing / Mommy mommy, play with me.” It may not be Leonard Cohen, but it’s undeniably charming.
Renowned Thai composer Mueanphet Ammara penned and produced the song, which was released by one of Thailand’s leading music companies, GMM Music. Could this be this year's 'Baby Shark'? You better believe it. Just be cautious with your kids around, as you might find yourself humming these lyrics repeatedly.
Moo Deng, whose name translates to “bouncy pork” in Thai, became a global sensation just a month after the Khao Kheow Open Zoo introduced her on Facebook. The hippo has attracted a massive influx of visitors to the zoo, located a two-hour drive from Bangkok. The zoo reports an average daily visitor count of 3,000 to 5,000 in recent months and is now selling Moo Deng-themed clothing and merchandise.
All four versions of the Moo Deng song can be found on YouTube and popular streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. As for a debut album, no announcements have been made yet.
