Although it initially had a low-key release in 2018, Moonlighter quickly became a beloved indie game, with both critics and players praising its distinctive mix of action-RPG and shop-simulation elements. During the PC Gaming Show, Digital Sun and 11 Bit Studios revealed Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, bringing back Will and his companions for another round of merchant adventures.
In Moonlighter 2, players will guide Will through a new realm called Tresna, delving into the mysterious Endless Vault in search of valuable artifacts and treasures. After battling through swarms of monsters and securing the loot, players will negotiate with local customers to sell the goods at the highest possible price. They will employ a range of weapons, from swords and gauntlets to the occasional broom, during their dungeon explorations. Profits from sold artifacts can be reinvested to upgrade Will's gear, enabling deeper forays into the vault.
This sequel marks Digital Sun's return to the Moonlighter universe, following projects like the tower-defense game Cataclismo and Mageseeker: A League Of Legends Story, developed in collaboration with Riot Games' now-defunct Riot Forge publishing arm. GameSpot's review of the original game, which awarded it a 7/10, described it as 'refreshing,' noting that 'the balance between dungeon crawling and managing the town's economy is a winning combination while it lasts.'
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is slated for release in 2025 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
