The Indian cricket team has welcomed former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel as their new bowling coach, as announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah to ANI on Wednesday.

Morne Morkel has been chosen ahead of India and Karnataka bowler Vinay Kumar, who was also considered for the role previously held by Mhambrey. Morkel's experience includes working with head coach Gautam Gambhir at the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League and serving as the bowling coach for India's rival, Pakistan, until the end of the ODI World Cup in November last year.

During his active career, the 39-year-old Morkel was a key figure in South Africa's formidable pace attack, making 86 Test appearances and taking 309 wickets at an average of 27.7. His ODI record includes 117 matches and 188 wickets at an average of 25.3, while in T20I, he played 44 matches and claimed 47 wickets at the same average.

In the recent series against Sri Lanka, the coaching staff under Gambhir included Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches, with T Dilip continuing as the fielding coach.
