Fenerbahce's manager, José Mourinho, received a booking from the referee on Sunday after he protested a VAR decision to disallow a goal by placing a laptop in front of a TV camera and displaying an image to argue that the offside call was incorrect. The Portuguese manager, formerly of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, told reporters he believed his striker Edin Dzeko was onside and showed a frame from the buildup to the strike to support his claim.
"For us, it's a good goal," Mourinho said following the 2-0 victory against Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig. "I like good VAR... I just want a VAR that assists the referee in making the right decisions." Fenerbahce's chairman, Ali Koc, had previously accused the Turkish Super Lig's video assistant referees of bias against his club in April, leading the league to hire foreign VARs for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
Fenerbahce, last season's runners-up, currently sit second in the table with 16 points from seven matches, trailing champions Galatasaray by three points. Mourinho's team is set to face FC Twente in the Europa League on Thursday.
