Mumbai Police have apprehended two individuals in connection with the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique. The authorities revealed that the suspects had been in the Indian city for an extended period, closely monitoring the deceased politician.
Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and prominent figure in Ajit Pawar's NCP faction, was fatally shot on Saturday and later died from his injuries at Lilavati Hospital.
The police also disclosed that the accused had been surveilling Siddique's residence and office for one and a half to two months prior to the killing. A third suspect remains at large, and efforts to locate him are ongoing. Additionally, it was reported that the perpetrators were paid in advance for their heinous act.
In response to the incident, the NCP has called off all its scheduled events for Sunday. Mumbai Police transported Siddique's body from Lilavati Hospital to Cooper Hospital early Sunday morning for a post-mortem examination. According to hospital staff, Siddique sustained two gunshot wounds to his chest before being rushed to Lilavati Hospital for emergency care.
