Police in Mumbai, India's financial hub, reported on Friday that they are investigating a bomb threat targeting the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) after receiving an email in Russian warning of an explosive attack. The email was sent to the official address of the newly appointed RBI Governor, Sanjay Malhotra, according to a senior Mumbai police officer.

"We have registered a case, and the investigation is ongoing," the officer stated. A case has been filed against an unknown suspect at the Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) police station, and the investigation is currently in progress, according to Zone 1 DCP of the Mumbai Police.

In a separate incident, over six prominent schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email on Friday morning, prompting immediate security measures. The schools that received the threats included Bhatnagar Public School in Paschim Vihar, Cambridge School in Srinivaspuri, Delhi Public School in East of Kailash, Delhi Public School in Defence Colony, Delhi Police Public School in Safdarjung Enclave, and Venkatesh Public School in Rohini.

The Delhi Fire Brigade and police teams quickly responded to the alerts, conducting thorough checks of the premises to ensure the safety of students and staff. After a meticulous search, authorities confirmed that no suspicious items were found.

Earlier this week, at least 40 schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email, while airlines and airports in India have faced nearly 1,000 hoax threats so far this year, a significant increase compared to the whole of 2023. Schools, railway stations, airports, and airlines in India have been subjected to numerous bomb threats this year, most of which have turned out to be hoaxes.
