My Chemical Romance has issued a statement following the passing of their former drummer, Bob Bryar, at the age of 44. "The band requests for your patience and understanding as they process the news of Bob’s passing," a spokesperson for the band said in a statement to Variety on Sunday. The Post has reached out to a representative for the rock group for further comment. Bryar was discovered deceased inside his Tennessee home last Tuesday, with his last known sighting being on November 4, according to TMZ. Animal control was summoned to the residence to remove two dogs after Bryar’s badly decomposed body was found. Authorities do not suspect foul play in his death, although the cause remains undetermined. Bryar was My Chemical Romance’s longest-serving drummer, having originally worked as a sound technician for The Used before joining My Chemical Romance in 2004, replacing original drummer Matt Pelissier. The band’s lineup during Bryar’s tenure included lead vocalist Gerard Way, lead guitarist Ray Toro, bass guitarist Mikey Way, and rhythm guitarist Frank Iero. In a 2016 interview with Alternative Press, Bryar recalled, "I left a very good touring gig where I was tour managing and doing sound. I left that job to join a band that was filthy, had shitty gear, a smashed-up, smoking, death-trap van and was poor. They smelled bad, too." He continued, "I was so happy to receive the offer. Long before we recorded ‘Welcome to the Black Parade,’ I knew that [MCR] were special and I wanted in. I wanted to help evolve the band and be able to shred with them every night." After the release of the band’s sophomore album “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge,” Bryar became the permanent drummer, performing on several albums including the 2006 platinum, concept album “The Black Parade.” Bryar parted ways with My Chemical Romance in March 2010, six years after he replaced Pelissier. "This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly," the band stated at the time. "We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors and expect you all to do the same." Following his time with the band, Bryar reportedly retired from the music industry and transitioned to a career in real estate. My Chemical Romance disbanded in 2013 but reunited in 2019, embarking on a Reunion Tour that was repeatedly postponed due to the pandemic. On November 12, the band announced their "Long Live" ten-city tour beginning in July 2025, with Bryar not scheduled to appear at any of the shows.
