The Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council (ETCC) revealed on Wednesday that over 114,000 Emiratis are now employed in private companies throughout the UAE, including banks. Notably, more than 81,000 of these positions were filled following the introduction of the Nafis programme three years ago.

Initiated in September 2021, Nafis encompasses a range of financial support initiatives, such as the Emirati salary support scheme, pension programme, child allowance scheme, and unemployment benefit. Additionally, it offers specialized training programs tailored for Emiratis, including talent development, apprenticeships, and career counseling.

The ETCC highlighted that the healthcare sector has seen a significant influx of Emiratis, largely due to the introduction of the studying citizen employment contract (apprenticeship programme) by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre). This initiative guarantees suitable employment opportunities for citizens while they continue their education.

Furthermore, the creatives programme, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, is nurturing national talents within the creative industry. As of the second quarter of 2024, Emiratis are represented in 21,000 private companies across the nation.

Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Member of the Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council, emphasized that the Nafis programme drives sustainable economic development through the expertise and exceptional work of the Emirati workforce. Their talents and skills are well-suited for a wide array of professional roles.

Dr Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council, noted that the initiative has made substantial contributions to Emiratisation efforts, achieving historic milestones in the number of Emirati citizens entering the private sector.

Al Awar further stated that Mohre is dedicated to refining policies and operational frameworks that enhance the appeal of the private sector, stimulate its growth, and advance Emiratisation efforts in this crucial sector, which is fundamental to the national economy. Nafis functions as a conduit connecting national talent with potential employers, providing all necessary information and steps for Emiratis to discover job opportunities that match their qualifications and capabilities.
