Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suffered an injury during a congressional delegation visit to a World War II battlefield in Luxembourg, her office disclosed on Friday.
Pelosi, 84, joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge in the Western European country. However, she sustained an injury and was later "admitted to the hospital for evaluation," according to her spokesperson Ian Krager.
"Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent care from doctors and medical professionals," Krager stated. "She remains engaged in her work but regrets that she cannot participate in the remaining events of the delegation to honor the bravery of our service members during one of the most significant acts of American heroism in our nation's history."
The former speaker's press representative also expressed her "appreciation and admiration for our veterans and gratitude to the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their contribution to bringing peace to Europe."
