Napoli's Serie A campaign got off to a disastrous start on Sunday, as they were thrashed 3-0 by Hellas Verona and lost their key midfielder Khvicha Kvaratskhelia due to a collision with an opposing player.
Antonio Conte, leading the 2023 champions in his first league game, had to substitute Kvaratskhelia just before halftime when the Georgian appeared distressed after the clash. Napoli's woes persisted post-interval when Dailon Livramento breached their defense within five minutes and neatly finished a close-range cross to put Verona ahead.
The horror show for Napoli continued 75 minutes into the match when Daniel Mosquera received a well-placed pass and coolly doubled Verona's advantage. In added time, Verona sealed their victory with a third goal as Napoli's defense crumbled, enabling Mosquera to score his second from a close-range pass.
