The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has initiated the National Supplementary Measles Immunisation Campaign 2024, which will provide an additional booster dose of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine to children within the targeted age range.

This campaign, titled 'Protect Yourself, Protect Your Community', aims to enhance vaccination coverage and ensure immunity against the virus as part of the national measles elimination program and the global objective to eradicate the disease by 2030.

The campaign focuses on children aged 1 to 7, aiming to safeguard them from measles and its associated complications. Recognized as the safest and most effective method of disease prevention, vaccination is a key priority for the Ministry of Health and Prevention in promoting a preventive, health-conscious society.

This initiative, launched in collaboration with the Emirates Health Services, Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, and Dubai Health Authority, not only represents a significant investment in the health of future generations but also serves as a foundation for sustainable development.

Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector, stated that the National Measles Campaign is part of the National Policy on Vaccinations, a comprehensive national framework designed to combat communicable diseases and reduce their risks to individuals and society, including measles. It also aligns with the Ministry's strategy to advance public health and foster a preventive, health-conscious society.

He emphasized that the UAE will continue to lead globally in promoting immunization and achieving high measles coverage rates. 'We at the Ministry strictly adhere to the latest WHO-approved protocols, ensuring the highest safety and efficacy standards, leading to a significant reduction in measles infection rates. Through continuously updated immunization programs, the UAE aims to achieve 100% vaccination coverage among target groups by 2030.'

Meanwhile, Dr. Nada Al Marzouqi, Director of the Department of Public Health and Prevention, highlighted that the measles vaccine is the most effective means to prevent the disease, which poses a serious health risk to unvaccinated children if contracted.

She urged parents to take their children to health centers and school clinics designated by the health authorities to ensure high vaccination coverage, thereby supporting the campaign's objectives and strengthening community immunity.

Dr. Al Marzouqi emphasized that community participation is essential to ensure the success of immunization programs.
