During The Game Awards, Naughty Dog unveiled its newest game franchise, which is a significant departure from its previous works. The game, titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, is set in a grounded yet futuristic science-fiction universe. The cinematic trailer featured the protagonist, Jordan, portrayed by Tatiana Gabrielle, receiving a call from a dispatcher and accepting a mission. The sequence then shifts to show her piloting a Porsche spaceship and facing off against a massive robotic threat. Although no gameplay footage was shown, host Geoff Keighley confirmed that the trailer was rendered in-engine.
This marks Naughty Dog's first major release since 2020's The Last of Us Part II. Despite focusing on this new project, the studio has remained busy. In 2023, HBO premiered a live-action adaptation of The Last of Us, based on the first game. The second season of the series is slated for 2025 and will adapt parts of the sequel's storyline, with future seasons planned to continue the narrative.
Initially, Naughty Dog was developing a multiplayer spin-off, The Last of Us Online, based on the Factions mode. This PvP game aimed to bring the single-player experience's atmosphere and intense combat into a multiplayer format with live-service elements. However, the project was canceled two years ago, and Naughty Dog has since reaffirmed its commitment to single-player games.
