The transition into menopause is frequently marred by misunderstandings, stress, and inadequate support. However, for numerous women, it can be a period of significant transformation when approached with appropriate knowledge and guidance. This is where a holistic wellness guide becomes invaluable. One such expert is Gayu Lewis, whose path to becoming a certified menopause coach evolved naturally through personal and professional development.

"Initially, as a health coach specializing in nutrition and naturopathy, I encountered clients experiencing perimenopause symptoms. Despite their prevalence, many clients felt isolated during this phase and struggled to understand the underlying reasons for these changes," explained Lewis, a Menopause Wellness Advocate and Holistic Coach. Motivated to better assist these women, she enhanced her expertise to become a menopause coach, focusing on providing personalized support.

"My background in nutrition and naturopathy was instrumental in this shift, as it emphasizes a comprehensive view of an individual's lifestyle, environment, and overall health rather than merely treating symptoms," she noted. Lewis employs a variety of strategies that address the physical, emotional, and psychological dimensions of menopause, including dietary adjustments, exercise, stress management, and natural remedies. This holistic approach aids women in navigating menopause with grace and vitality, viewing it as a period of growth rather than a series of challenges.

"My primary goal remains unchanged: empowering women to comprehend their bodies, make informed decisions about their health, and embrace menopause as a natural and beneficial phase of life," she added. Common misconceptions about menopause, such as it being solely about hot flashes or inevitably leading to health deterioration, can hinder women from seeking necessary care. Lewis also challenges the notion that hormone replacement therapy is the only solution, advocating for non-hormonal treatments and lifestyle modifications.

To debunk the myth that healthy eating must be bland, Lewis frequently develops and modifies recipes to include ingredients beneficial for menopausal women, such as those rich in phytoestrogens, calcium, and omega-3 fatty acids. "Through my YouTube channel, I offer a plethora of nutrition tips and tricks, highlighting that nourishment can be both tasty and beneficial. I detail why certain ingredients are advantageous, how they can alleviate specific symptoms, and ways to integrate them into daily meals, helping viewers understand the nutritional value of their food choices," said Lewis.

Perimenopause, the initial phase of menopause, can extend up to a decade before actual menopause begins. This is the stage where most symptoms manifest. Menopause is officially defined as the absence of a menstrual period for one full year. "To effectively manage symptoms and embrace this natural transition, I recommend women begin making positive lifestyle changes around the age of 38. This proactive approach can help mitigate adverse effects and ensure a smoother journey through menopause," advised Lewis.

Lewis relocated to Dubai in 2011, attracted by the vibrant opportunities and the chance to start a new chapter in her life. Love played a significant role in this decision, as her husband was already based in Dubai. "We had known each other since university, and our deep connection made the decision to move much easier. His presence and the promising prospects of Dubai were the perfect combination, leading me to embark on this exciting journey," concluded Lewis.
