Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann has reportedly disclosed that he has been engaged in the development of his next game since 2020. According to sources, Druckmann shared this information during the Jewish Visionaries in Gaming discussion this week, where he appeared alongside BioShock designer Ken Levine. Although the video of the event has been set to private, Reddit users (via Kotaku) claim that Druckmann mentioned his ongoing work on this new game, the nature of which remains uncertain, since 2020.
This revelation is not entirely unexpected, given that Naughty Dog's most recent major release, The Last of Us: Part II, was launched in 2020. It is logical for Druckmann to have commenced work on his subsequent project around that time. Regarding the specifics of the game, speculations abound, but there have been hints. Following the cancellation of The Last of Us Online, Naughty Dog confirmed that it is developing two single-player games. One is anticipated to be The Last of Us: Part III, while the other remains a mystery.
In May of this year, Druckmann expressed that the new game he is working on is incredibly exciting to him, stating that he feels "maybe the most excited" in his life about it. However, he refrained from divulging details, humorously noting that discussing it would incur the wrath of his superiors. Additionally, beyond video game development, Druckmann is involved in the production of the HBO series The Last of Us, which is set to return for its second season in Spring 2025.
While some fans are hopeful for the return of the Uncharted series, it is advisable not to hold one's breath. Naughty Dog has declared itself "done" with the franchise, though it is theoretically possible for another team to create a new Uncharted game.
