Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli secured a two-thirds majority in the vote of confidence held in parliament on Sunday. Oli received 188 votes out of 275, with 74 votes against and one abstention, as announced by the House Speaker. A total of 263 lawmakers attended the session. The Prime Minister needed at least 138 votes to secure the motion. "Today, 263 members of parliament were present for the vote. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, following Article 76 (4) of the Constitution, introduced the trust motion in the House of Representatives, which received 188 votes in favor, 74 against, and one abstention," declared House Speaker Devraj Ghimire.

"The trust motion, as per the Constitution of Nepal, Article 76(4), has gained the confidence of the House of Representatives with 188 votes in support, constituting a majority based on the number of members present. I hereby confirm that the trust motion submitted by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been approved by a majority," the House Speaker added. Oli was appointed Prime Minister under Article 76(2) of the Constitution and had to undergo a vote of confidence within 30 days. He was appointed by President Ramchandra Paudel on July 15, supported by signatures from 166 lawmakers.

Prior to the motion, Oli disclosed the details of a seven-point agreement between the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML reached earlier this month. Prime Minister Oli emphasized that this agreement was a collaborative effort by the two largest parties to tackle the nation's critical issues.
