NetEase and Bungie have unveiled a brand-new mobile game titled Destiny Rising, a sci-fi RPG set in an 'alternate timeline' within the Destiny universe. NetEase boasts that the game offers 'best-in-class' shooting action on mobile devices. Destiny Rising promises a 'brand-new adventure with familiar and new characters,' along with 'an abundance of classic and brand-new modes.' A closed alpha test is scheduled to begin in November, and interested players can pre-register now. The announcement trailer is available below, and further down the page, you can watch a more detailed developer preview video.
In September, the existence of a Destiny mobile game from Bungie and NetEase was leaked. This followed news from 2018 that NetEase had invested $100 million in Bungie to create non-Destiny games. It's possible that the arrangement has evolved, as Destiny Rising is clearly a Destiny game, or there may be additional projects in the pipeline between Bungie and NetEase.
In addition to Destiny Rising, Bungie is also developing a survival shooter called Marathon and possibly other projects. The company underwent significant changes in 2024, including mass layoffs that impacted several senior staff members. Some Bungie insiders have joined a new team within parent company Sony to work on a new action game.
