Streaming giant Netflix experienced a widespread outage for thousands of users in the US on Friday night, according to outage tracking site Downdetector.com. This disruption occurred just as viewers were tuning in to watch the highly anticipated boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. By 10.35 pm ET (0335 GMT Saturday), Downdetector recorded 85,021 users reporting issues. The platform aggregates outage reports from various sources.
The outage primarily affected users in major cities such as New York, Seattle, and Los Angeles, with scattered reports from other regions. Netflix did not provide an immediate comment when contacted by Reuters. The streaming service has previously encountered outages during live or highly anticipated events, often due to spikes in user traffic.
In April last year, Netflix faced a brief outage during a live stream of the dating reality show Love is Blind, prompting complaints from thousands of users.
