Beginning January 1, 2025, a fresh paid parking system will be implemented at three prominent malls in Dubai, including Mall of the Emirates (MoE), as announced on Wednesday.
Parkin Company, the primary public parking operator in the emirate, has collaborated with developer Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Properties to introduce 'barrierless parking' at MoE, City Centre Deira, and City Centre Mirdif. However, Mall parking fees will remain unaltered under the five-year contract, according to a statement from Parkin.
How the new system will function: Utilizing Parkin's seamless parking technology, visitors will no longer need to halt and wait at barriers when entering or exiting mall parking lots. Advanced cameras will automatically capture license plates, monitoring each vehicle’s progress and duration of stay. As drivers enter the parking area, they will receive an SMS or a Parkin app alert regarding the parking costs. Visitors can use the app or Parkin's website to settle any charges.
This new seamless entry and exit experience is anticipated to facilitate mall access for over 20 million cars annually across three sites. These malls collectively offer 21,000 parking spaces.
“Our smart systems will mitigate congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow, thereby enhancing the overall customer experience at some of the busiest and most renowned retail locations in Dubai,” stated Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, CEO of Parkin.
Parkin, a public joint stock company listed on the Dubai Financial Market, has been aiming to extend its services to privately owned developments—including shopping malls, airports, and other high-traffic facilities—as mentioned earlier this year.
This will not mark the first barrierless parking system in the emirate. A comparable system is already in operation for paid parking services at certain areas of Dubai Mall; however, that facility is managed by Salik. This implies that Dubai Mall parking fees are automatically deducted from Salik user accounts.
