Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has announced that a fresh trailer for Borderlands 4 will be unveiled at The Game Awards this week. Pitchford hinted on Twitter/X that the upcoming preview will feature a blend of gameplay and a 'never-before-seen original cinematic sequence' set in the period between the end of Borderlands 3 and the start of Borderlands 4. Despite Pitchford's frequent teasers, details about Borderlands 4 remain scarce. While there have been some leaks, such as concept art revealing one of the new planets, specifics about the playable Vault Hunters, the next major antagonist, or whether Claptrap will ever manage to host a successful pizza party, are still under wraps.
One detail Pitchford did disclose is that the game's antagonist will not be Handsome Jack. Instead, players will face a threat 'far more dangerous' than the iconic Hyperion CEO. This week's trailer will be the first substantial look at the game for many fans, but terminally ill Borderlands enthusiast Caleb McAlpine had the chance to preview it early after Gearbox heard his heartfelt request. Borderlands 4 was officially announced during the opening night of Gamescom in August and is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025. Publisher Take-Two Interactive aims to maintain a significant gap between Borderlands 4 and Grand Theft Auto 6 to prevent sales overlap.
