The recently appointed CEO of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 has disclosed how he was instructed to address Meghan Markle before their initial meeting earlier this year. Scott Moore, who secured the position ahead of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's visit to Canada in February, was given guidance that deviated from the standard protocol for addressing former senior members of the royal family.
"I did make sure to ask how I should be addressing them when they get here," Moore previously shared, via the Mirror. Moore was advised that a straightforward "Ma'am" would suffice for Meghan, and to address Prince Harry as "Sir." This advice contrasted with the usual practice of addressing male royals as "Your Royal Highness," followed by "Sir," and female royals as "Your Royal Highness," followed by "Ma'am."
However, the Sussexes' dramatic departure from royal life in 2020 and subsequent move to the US led to the loss of their HRH titles. This means the couple can no longer be addressed as "Your Royal Highness," although they retain their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles. The decision to address Harry and Meghan with their formal titles stands in sharp contrast to the duke's preference for informality back in 2020.
During a tourism conference in Edinburgh at the time, Harry, the father of two, famously insisted on being called simply "Harry," a stance he reiterated to the event's host, Ayesha Hazarika. "He's made it clear that we are all just to call him Harry," she told the audience at the time, per BBC News.
During their February trip to Vancouver, the Sussexes spent Valentine's Day on the snowy slopes. The duo joined members of the participating nations' Winter Training Camp at the "One Year to Go" event. The camp, held over three days, offered members of the international Invictus community a chance to engage in winter sports ahead of the 2025 Invictus Games, set to take place in Canada from February 8 to 16.
At last year's games in Germany, Markle hinted that the couple might bring their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to the next event.
