A recently inaugurated bridge in Dubai, unveiled on Sunday, June 9, is designed to divert traffic from the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road to the service road that leads to Jumeirah Golf Estate and Dubai Production City. This two-lane bridge, capable of handling 3,200 vehicles per hour, is integral to a larger initiative aimed at enhancing the intersection of Garn Al Sabkha and Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road. The comprehensive traffic improvement project, which includes the construction of four bridges, is nearing completion. This project is deemed a vital connection between Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed roads, facilitating smoother traffic flow across Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed, First Al Khail, and Al Asayel roads. Upon completion, the project is expected to cut down travel time from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road en route to Qusais and Deira from 20 minutes to 12 during peak hours. Mattar Al Tayer, the director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), highlighted that the project will also slash travel time by 70% for drivers traveling from Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayes Street, heading towards Jebel Ali Port — reducing it from 21 minutes to seven. Additionally, three other bridges are part of this initiative: a two-lane bridge at the intersection of Garn Al Sabkha Street and Al Asayel Street, with a capacity of 8,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, facilitating smoother traffic between Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed roads; a two-lane bridge serving traffic from Garn Al Sabkha Street, eastward towards Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Street, and northward towards Al Qusais and Deira, with an estimated capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour; and a two-lane bridge enhancing traffic flow by removing interference from vehicles on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road heading north to Al Yalayes Street towards Jebel Ali Port, also with an estimated capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour.
