The New Orleans Saints have reportedly responded to their disappointing 2-7 start to the season by dismissing head coach Dennis Allen. The Saints began the season with high hopes, showcasing their potential with a 47-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers followed by a 44-19 thrashing of the Dallas Cowboys. However, these early wins were later overshadowed by the struggles of both the Cowboys and Panthers, and the Saints themselves. On Sunday, the Saints faced the Panthers again and suffered a 23-22 defeat, marking their seventh consecutive loss.

Allen, who was in his third season as New Orleans' head coach, had previously served as the team's defensive coordinator from 2015 until he took over from Sean Payton in 2022. During his tenure with the Saints, Allen compiled an 18-25 record and failed to guide the team to the playoffs. Prior to joining the Saints, Allen was the head coach of the Raiders from 2012 to 2014, where he posted an 8-28 record. According to the NFL Network, special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi will step in as the interim head coach.
