Motorists have shared images of the newly installed Salik gates in Dubai with Khaleej Times. The addition of these two toll gates will raise the total number of Salik gates in Dubai from eight to ten. They are situated at Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and at Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road, between Al Meydan Street and Umm Al Sheif Street.
Salik Company PJSC, the sole toll gate operator in Dubai, disclosed in its half-year financial report issued on Tuesday that these new toll gates are set to become operational by the end of November this year. An image shared with Khaleej Times on Tuesday was captured on Al Khail Road, prior to reaching the Business Bay bridge en route to Sharjah from Dubai. It displays the recognizable silver panel equipped with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology designed to detect vehicles and scan their Salik sticker tags.
Khaleej Times recently requested a statement from Salik regarding the new gates, but the company stated that it could not provide additional comments or details beyond the information released on January 19. The introduction of these new Salik gates was initially announced earlier this year with the goal of enhancing traffic flow and alleviating congestion on major routes within Dubai.
The Roads and Transport Authority explained in January that the locations for the new Salik gates were chosen following comprehensive traffic movement studies. The primary aim is to regulate traffic distribution and decrease congestion by redirecting some traffic to alternative routes with higher capacity, thereby ensuring smoother and more efficient travel for all motorists in Dubai.
