The earlier previews of Prime Video's Like a Dragon: Yakuza live-action series provided little more than a glimpse of some extravagant action scenes. However, with the premiere just around the corner, a fresh trailer for Like a Dragon: Yakuza now gives fans of the original Sega games a clearer picture of what to expect.
Ryoma Takeuchi takes on the role of Kazuma Kiryu, the central character from the initial Yakuza games and the main focus of the show. The series will unfold across two distinct time periods. In 1995, Kazuma and his companions, Yumi (Yumi Kawai) and Miho (Hinano Nakayama), are young and audacious enough to target an arcade owned by the Dojima crime family. They also naively believe they can get away with stealing a substantial sum of money.
At some point in this narrative, Kazuma will join the yakuza. The other storyline is set in 2005, with Kazuma recently released from prison and no longer affiliated with the yakuza. Unfortunately, Kazuma will never fully escape his past, and even his old friends are hesitant to reconnect with him. Meanwhile, an enigmatic figure has his own plans for the city's rival yakuza factions.
Prime Video will debut the first three episodes of Like a Dragon: Yakuza on October 24, with subsequent episodes released weekly. The next installment in the series, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, is slated for release on February 28, 2025.
