Niall Horan was seen in London for the first time, just hours after the tragic death of his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne, in Argentina. The 31-year-old singer was spotted on Thursday with his girlfriend, Amelia Woolley, and their dog. Horan wore a somber-looking Muirfield Village golf club cap, a green jacket, and dark shades to hide his eyes. He has not yet commented on Payne's sudden death.
Payne, also 31, passed away on October 16. Initial reports suggested he had jumped from the balcony of his room at CasaSur Palermo in Buenos Aires, but the autopsy report indicated he had fallen. Pablo Policicchio, Communications Director for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, informed Page Six that investigators are still determining whether the incident was accidental or intentional.
Following Payne's death, the remaining members of One Direction—Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson—released a heartfelt statement on Thursday. "We are utterly devastated by the news of Liam's passing," they wrote on Instagram. "In time, and when everyone is ready, there will be more to say. For now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, whom we loved deeply." The statement continued, "The memories we shared with him will be cherished forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him as much as we did. We will miss him terribly. We love you, Liam. Louis, Zayn, Niall, and Harry."
Medical officials confirmed that Payne suffered a fractured skull and died instantly from "very serious injuries." The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office No. 16 also stated that the position of Payne's body and the nature of his injuries suggest he "did not adopt a protective posture" and may have "fallen while in a state of semi or total unconsciousness."
