UAE resident and ambassador of The Brain & Performance Centre, Dubai, Nico Colsaerts, recently shared his reflections on life-altering moments in his career and personal life.
During a conversation with Khaleej Times at Yas Links Abu Dhabi, the Belgian professional golfer, who currently competes on the DP World Tour, discussed his pivotal moment at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland. He finished as runner-up, securing his return to the DP World Tour for 2025.
Colsaerts described the tournament as a turning point for both him and his family. He shot rounds of 65, 65, 65, and 70, culminating in a 23-under-par score of 265 and a prize of €478,488.38. This victory marked his return to the DP World Tour after a challenging period where he relied on invites to participate.
Reflecting on his mindset, Colsaerts noted that the pressure was off, allowing him to play freely. He compared this period to his experience at the 2019 Open de France, where he also felt liberated from expectations. Colsaerts emphasized that he had not practiced for four months prior to the tournament, spending time with his family in Spain instead.
Upon returning to the UAE, he played well in the Omega European Masters, finishing tied 27th, which reignited his confidence. Arriving in Scotland, he had no expectations and minimal practice, yet he managed to perform exceptionally well over the 72-hour tournament.
Colsaerts also discussed his growing role in broadcasting, planning to spend 15 weeks next year in this capacity. He expressed his enjoyment in this new venture and how it complements his golf career. Relocating to Abu Dhabi has been a positive change for his family, providing a quieter environment and better access to schools.
Currently, Colsaerts is involved in maintenance sessions at The Brain & Performance Centre, Dubai, which he credits for helping him get back on track. He is also working as a TV commentator for Tour Productions, where he aims to deliver relevant and engaging content.
