Nico Colsaerts, a UAE resident and Ambassador for The Brain & Performance Centre, Dubai, a DP World Company, is set to compete in the BMW Australian PGA Championship this week. This marks his return to the DP World Tour with full playing privileges for the current season.
The 2023-24 season concluded in grand style at Jumeirah Golf Estates, with Rory McIlroy securing the DP World Tour Championship, achieving a notable double victory. McIlroy's consistent performance, especially in Dubai where he has historically excelled, is noteworthy. Despite his recent triumphs, McIlroy ranks third in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), behind Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele. Scheffler's sustained dominance at the top of the rankings is impressive, though the intricacies of the OWGR system remain a topic for further exploration.
The new DP World Tour season kicks off on Thursday with the BMW Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane. This event inaugurates the Opening Swing, followed by four more Global Swings in Phase One, each culminating in their respective rankings and champions. Phase Two, known as the Back 9, will see the top 70 players on the Race to Dubai Rankings advance to the DP World Tour Play-Offs. The season concludes with the top 50 players competing in the DP World Tour Championship, where the Harry Vardon Trophy will be awarded to Europe's top golfer.
A robust field of Australian players, including Cam Smith, Jason Day, Geoff Ogilvy, Marc Leishman, and Min Woo Lee, will compete this week. UAE Golden Visa recipients Nico Colsaerts (Belgium) and Rafa Cabrera Bello (Spain) are also in the lineup, aiming for a strong start to the 2024-25 season. Meanwhile, the LPGA Tour's CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida, offers a substantial purse of $11 million, second only to the US Women’s Open's $12 million in 2024. The top 60 players on the LPGA Tour’s Race to CME Globe will vie for a $4 million prize on Sunday night.
