Nearly 20 years later, Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman made her comeback at the Venice Film Festival. Her movie Babygirl had its premiere at the event, receiving an over seven-minute standing ovation from the Sala Grande crowd, according to Deadline. Kidman was accompanied by co-stars Harris Dickinson, Antonio Banderas, and Sophie Wilde, along with director Halina Reijn. Babygirl focuses on Kidman's character, a CEO who jeopardizes her family and career by engaging in a passionate relationship with her younger intern. Following its Venice debut, A24 plans to showcase the film at The Toronto International Film Festival before its Christmas Day release in the US. Kidman expressed to the Venice press that working with Reijn on the film was a "liberating" experience. She described the film as delving into "desire, inner thoughts, secrets, marriage, truth, power, consent... It's the story of one woman, I hope a very liberating one. It's told from a woman's perspective... and that's what made it so unique, being in the hands of a woman with this material, sharing those deep things, and feeling very liberated."
