Nigerian artist Fola David is vying for the Guinness record for the largest drawing by an individual, having dedicated six days to his creation in a Lagos stadium. David, who is also a medical doctor, explained that his 1,050 square meter artwork titled 'Unity in Diversity,' which features two enormous hands cradling Nigeria's map, aims to highlight the nation's rich cultural heritage.
Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, comprises approximately 250 ethnic groups, with Muslims and Christians nearly equally divided, and ethnic tensions are prevalent. "Our diversity should be viewed as a unifying force, something that fortifies us, rather than a source of division," David stated upon finishing his piece on Sunday night.
The Guinness World Record organization has been notified and will need to validate his work if he is to break the record established in 2021 by Indian artist Ravi Soni, who created a 629.98 square meter drawing.
