After 210 days, the moment finally arrived, and Nintendo's 3DS and Wii U online servers have officially shut down. The service endured longer than expected, thanks to the unwavering dedication of fans worldwide. One player, Fishguy6564, was the last to stand, until a system crash marked the end of 3DS online play.
Fishguy6564 wasn't alone in his persistence, but he certainly outlasted most. On Sunday morning, he tweeted, "It's over. Rest in peace, Nintendo Network," alongside a photo of his 3DS showing an error message. In an August interview with GamesRadar, Fishguy6564 mentioned that he could theoretically play indefinitely, barring any unforeseen issues with the 3DS. Unfortunately, that prediction came true.
Fishguy6564 and another player, Marioiscool246, had a shared mission: to keep a lobby active for as long as possible. They achieved this by applying a patch that, in theory, prevented the lobby from ending by using two bots to race endlessly. After Marioiscool246's 3DS crashed in May, Fishguy6564 continued for nearly seven more months. Even in August, he marveled at how long it had lasted, remarking, "It sure has been a wild ride."
