The enigmatic Nintendo Switch Online test, set to commence later this month, carries a stern warning for those selected to participate: Please refrain from discussing or disclosing any details.
User OatmealDome, who received an invitation to the test, shared a page from the disclosure form which states, "We request that you do not discuss or disclose content from either the Nintendo Switch Online: Playtest Program test software or website with others."
Naturally, given the nature of the internet, it's probable that some information about the test will inevitably leak out. Although referred to by some as an NDA, the agreement does not seem to be overly stringent. Nevertheless, the message is clear: Nintendo appears to desire discretion, even if that might be an impractical expectation.
The playtest is scheduled to run from October 23 to November 5, and participation requires an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. The test has already reached its user limit, and no further participants are being accepted.
The announcement of the playtest followed shortly after Nintendo released a major firmware update for the Switch. Some speculate that this upcoming test may be related to the next Nintendo console, the Switch 2. However, this remains speculative.
The Switch 2, or whatever Nintendo opts to name its next home console, is currently in development and is expected to be announced in the coming months. Nintendo's next earnings report is due on November 5, and some anticipate the Switch 2 announcement around that time, though nothing is confirmed at this point.
