Japanese automaker Nissan revealed on Thursday that it will be reducing its workforce by 9,000 employees as part of a broader restructuring plan. The company cited a 'severe situation' as the reason for these drastic measures.

'Nissan will reduce global production capacity by 20 per cent and cut its global workforce by 9,000,' the company stated. This announcement comes as Nissan adjusts its annual sales forecast, now anticipating net sales of 12.7 trillion yen ($80 billion), a significant drop from the previously projected 14 trillion yen.
