British studio North West Boatworks has introduced Aurora, an 80-metre superyacht concept developed under Oceanco's Simply Custom initiative. Simply Custom aims to streamline the commissioning process by offering a reliable platform from Lateral Naval Architects, along with extensive customization options for both exterior and interior designs.
Named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora is envisioned to embody 'beauty and light,' as stated by the shipyard. Designer Alex Fogg emphasized the concept's distinctive use of glass, light, and space, with expansive curved glazing forming the yacht's exterior.
Fogg noted that Aurora's design draws from both nature and the automotive sector, featuring 'sweeping feminine curves' and 'crisp creases and complex surfacing,' reminiscent of high-performance cars. While interior specifics remain undisclosed, exterior renderings showcase an expansive aft deck with a large swim platform and a fold-out balcony, enhancing water access. The deck areas are designed for ample lounging and dining, with cream sunpads and dedicated outdoor dining spaces.
A key feature is the extensive use of glass panels that flood the interiors with natural light. As the designer explained, Aurora's exterior and interior spaces are seamlessly integrated to work in harmony.
All Simply Custom yachts are equipped with advanced technical systems, including a highly optimized stabilization system, pod drives, electric propulsion, and onboard battery storage. The platform also supports renewable diesel fuels like HVO, allowing owners to reduce carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional marine diesel, according to Oceanco.
This announcement follows the debut of other Simply Custom concepts, such as Pininfarina's 80-metre Kairos, revealed earlier this year.
