Arsenal showcased their European Championship-winning star Jorginho, Champions League victor Kai Havertz, and four-time Premier League champion Raheem Sterling, who tormented Preston. However, the loudest cheers at Deepdale came for Ethan Nwaneri, a 17-year-old from Enfield. The away fans chanted, 'One of our own,' recognizing a special talent. In just his second start for Mikel Arteta's team, Nwaneri outshone more seasoned players as Arsenal cruised into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. The teenager scored a brilliant goal, his third in the competition, hit the crossbar with another powerful shot, and generally dominated Preston throughout the match. He received a standing ovation from Arsenal fans when he was substituted late in the game.

Preston, the last Championship team left in the competition, made six changes to the team that drew at Plymouth, possibly reacting to their three-goal lead loss at Home Park. Arsenal, with greater resources, gradually exploited Preston's weaknesses. Arteta gave a debut to 18-year-old goalkeeper Tommy Setford, signed from Ajax, and another chance to Nwaneri. The attacking midfielder, who scored twice in the previous round against Bolton, delivered again. Arsenal's team was strong in experience and pedigree.

Setford remained untested in the first half as Preston missed opportunities. Arsenal initially over-elaborated in the Preston penalty area, but Nwaneri was a constant, intelligent threat. The visitors stretched play to allow Sterling and Gabriel Martinelli to attack full-backs, which paid off when Martinelli was fouled. From the resulting free-kick, Kiwior headed down for Gabriel Jesus to score. Woodman saved from Nwaneri, but couldn't stop the stunning goal that gave Arsenal a two-goal lead. Nwaneri's left-footed strike from 22 yards was a highlight of his outstanding display.

Nwaneri nearly assisted Jesus, but the striker missed a free header. Moments later, Kiwior's superb delivery allowed Havertz to head powerfully. Havertz was denied a second goal by a goalline clearance, and Woodman made a double save. Arsenal's dominance was evident, with Nwaneri hitting the crossbar. Preston improved late, but Setford handled Okkels' shot. Havertz and Sterling missed late chances, with Potts making a crucial clearance.
