October is the prime time for horror games, as evidenced by our October horror games roundup, and today we're introducing a fresh addition to the extensive list: 7 Minutes in Hell. Developed by Gaggle Studios, the creators of the Among Us-inspired Goose Goose Duck, 7 Minutes in Hell draws a clear inspiration, albeit with a surprising twist; it's akin to Lethal Company reimagined as a twisted game show.
7 Minutes in Hell challenges players to navigate decrepit, monster-filled labyrinths, gather as much loot as possible, and escape before the timer runs out. For those of a certain generation, it might be best compared to Supermarket Sweep, but with dimmer lighting and fewer ads for laundry detergent. The game can be played solo or in co-op, with a significant focus on social dynamics, such as choosing to abandon the group and escape with your loot, leaving others in the dark.
With only seven minutes per run, each round is designed to be fast-paced and increasingly difficult. Similar to Lethal Company, you can use your earnings from previous rounds to purchase resources like flashlights, enhancing your chances of survival and success in later rounds. The game also features in-game "sponsors" who provide additional buffs, hinting at a satirical edge, much like Lethal Company's commentary on workplace class structures or, more closely, Squid Game's portrayal of the common person's pursuit of wealth in a rigged system.
7 Minutes in Hell launches today, October 7, on Steam, and debuts as an early access title with a roadmap already in place. This year will see new threats and items added through multiple updates, along with a new arena in December. Updates planned for 2025 include mod support, plus additional items and monsters.
