Kate Hudson and her brother, Oliver Hudson, were not keen on the idea of Kurt Russell adopting them when they were children. During a recent episode of their podcast, "Sibling Revelry," Oliver disclosed that Russell had proposed the idea of legal adoption when he began dating their mother, Goldie Hawn, in the 1980s.

"Kurt entered my life when I was around six years old, and he essentially raised me," Oliver shared during the podcast. The episode featured Oliver, 48, hosting solo with guests Tish Cyrus-Purcell and Brandi Cyrus, who was born during her mother's first marriage to drummer Baxter Helson and later adopted by Billy Ray Cyrus after they married.

During the discussion, Oliver revealed that when Russell came into his life at a young age, he quickly assumed the role of a father and was open to formalizing it legally. "There was a moment when he asked Kate and me if we wanted to be adopted, and we said 'no,'" Oliver recounted. "We weren't fully aware of what it meant at the time, being six and twelve years old, but we just felt that we didn't need it. The love was already there."

The absence of their biological father left a void in Oliver's life, as he was only "around for a little while before he left." However, Oliver mentioned that after much effort, he now has a good relationship with his biological father. "There was always a sense of something missing, but I eventually found that other side," he explained. "When your biological parent isn't around, it's hard to replace that no matter what."

Despite this, Oliver considers Russell his father and still refers to him as "pa." "I am who I am today because of him," he said. During the episode, Miley Cyrus' half-sister expressed her desire to be adopted by the "Achy Breaky Heart" singer so she could share the same last name as the rest of her family.

Hawn's first husband was Gux Trikonis. She had Oliver and Kate with her second husband, Bill Hudson, but they separated in 1982. A year later, she began dating Russell, with whom she welcomed a son, Wyatt, in 1986. Russell also has a son, Boston, with his ex-wife, actress Season Hubley. The Hollywood couple has been together for 40 years but has never married. Rumors of a potential marriage sparked in 1989 when Russell appeared to propose to Hawn during the Oscars, but no official wedding ever took place.
