The Sultanate of Oman has declared a public holiday in celebration of the Hijri New Year. The Oman News Agency has confirmed that Sunday, July 7, 2024, will be a day off for both public and private sectors across the nation.
"Sunday, July 7, marks an official holiday for both the public and private sectors in observance of the anniversary of the noble Prophet’s (PBUH) migration. May the prayers and peace be upon its owner and the advent of the new Hijri year 1446 AH."
This announcement means public sector workers will enjoy a three-day weekend, as Friday is the customary weekend day in Oman (similar to Sunday in Western countries). For those on a five-day workweek, this also includes Saturday, making it a longer weekend. The Ministry of Labour in Oman states that employers can request employees to work on this holiday if necessary for their job, but must compensate them for doing so.
