The “One Tree Hill” family is experiencing a rift. Bethany Joy Lenz recently confirmed a falling out with her former co-star Hilarie Burton during an episode of “Call Her Daddy.” Lenz, 43, expressed, “I love Hilarie. I have always and will always, and I don’t have any problem with her.” Host Alex Cooper mentioned that fans have speculated about a feud between the two since they stopped following each other on social media.
“There have been some bizarre misunderstandings that I really hope we can figure out one day,” Lenz added. “But I love that girl.” The Post has contacted Burton’s representative for comment.
Lenz and Burton remained close friends for years after their time on the popular teen drama from 2003 to 2009. They even launched a rewatch podcast, “Drama Queens,” with co-star Sophia Bush in 2021. However, fans noticed the pair unfollowed each other on Instagram earlier this year, possibly due to drama surrounding Lenz’s memoir, “Dinner For Vampires.”
Lenz’s book, announced in February and set to release next week, shares stories about her experience in a cult. Its cover bears a resemblance to Burton’s 2023 memoir “Grimoire Girl.” Burton expressed her annoyance on her Instagram Story, stating, “I don’t think imitation is the highest form of flattery, I think it’s annoying.”
In March, Burton was notably absent from a promotional video for the “Drama Queens” YouTube channel, featuring Lenz and Bush, 42. By July, Burton announced her departure from the podcast, citing the show’s progression into Season 7, where she stopped appearing on “OTH.”
Burton is, however, involved in the upcoming “OTH” sequel series on Netflix, where she and Bush will reprise their roles as Peyton Sawyer and Brooke Davis, respectively. It remains uncertain if Lenz will return as Haley James Scott.
“I am absolutely open to being a part of a revisiting to Tree Hill. But as far as this particular one, I don’t know. It’s so early,” Lenz told Variety after the sequel series was announced in August. “I don’t know if it’s in pilot, I don’t know if it’s in series. I don’t know where it’s at,” she added.
